Can’t find your vehicle?

Which Are the 10 Most Stolen Cars in the UK?

Posted on: 02/12/2014

Having a car stolen is an owner’s worst nightmare, but if you have one of the vehicles listed below parked in front of your house, it might be a good idea to upgrade your home security system.

These are the ten most stolen cars in the UK, and while the thieves ought to be reprimanded to the highest degree, there’s no doubt that they have impeccable taste.

10. BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class, Porsche 911

There are no less than three cars sharing the not-so-coveted spot of the tenth most stolen car in the UK – the BMW 5 Series, the Mercedes E-Class, and the Porsche 911. It’s not difficult to see why these beautiful vehicles catch the eyes of light-fingered fiends across the UK.

9. Audi A3

Car thieves sure love their German vehicles, as the ninth most stolen car in the UK is none other than the sleek Audi A3. While it’s not the most powerful car in Audi’s range, it’s still irresistible to the undesirables.

8. Range Rover

With price tags as high as £140,000, plus incredibly powerful engines and impressive sizes, it really is little wonder why Range Rovers are constantly on the shopping lists of car crooks. However Range Rovers aren’t exactly the easiest cars to conceal, but we suppose that if you’re going to be dumb enough to steal a car you might as well think big.

7. Range Rover Sport

Unsurprisingly, the Range Rover’s sportier sibling is even more desirable to car thieves. Anyone who can afford to buy a Range Rover Sport probably has enough money to treat themselves to a new one, but that doesn’t mean they’ll feel any less of a sting if their beloved car disappears off their driveway.

6. BMW 3 Series

We don’t know whether to feel sorry for BMW, whose cars take up five spots on the UK’s most-stolen car list, or commend them for making cars that are worth risking a prison term for. If you’re a BMW 3 Series owner, we suggest having a peek out of the window at your car right now.

5. BMW M5

The sportier a BMW, the more likely it is to be stolen. Thieves can make BMW M5’s disappear at the speed of light, thanks to its 4.4 litre V8 engine that can take the vehicle from 0-62mph in just over four seconds.

4. Audi S4

What is it with thieves and German cars? Coming in at number four is the Four Wheel Drive Audi S4, a practical and popular family car that’s going down a storm with pesky pilferers too. Not even rough terrain can stop the thieves from getting away in this one.

3. Mercedes C-Class

Does the ‘C’ in C-Class stand for ‘clamps’? Because it seems that’s what you’ll need to deter thieves from making off with your Merc. The Mercedes C-Class is the third most stolen car in the UK, proving once again that the crooks at least have classy tastes.

2. BMW M3

The 3.0 litre, six-cylinder BMW M3 may have two fewer cylinders than its older models, but that hasn’t done anything to deter thieves who have put this sporty vehicle at second place on their ‘Must-Steal’ list. Are you re-thinking buying that new BMW yet? Yep, us too.

1. BMW X5

In at number one, on the list no car wants to be on, it’s the BMW X5! The most stolen car in the UK is the lofty, Range Rover-rivalling BMW X5, which has room for seven people – or seven thieves, should we say – and has a price tag of £43,000. We would all love to have one of these in our garage, but at least most of us would rather use honest means to get them.
