The Top Ten Fastest Supercars in the World
Posted on: 04/11/2014Got a spare million pounds that you aren’t sure how to spend? We have just the thing – one of the world’s fastest road-legal supercars that are perfect for a leisurely Sunday cruise. That is, if your idea of ‘leisurely’ is 270mph.
These ten beautiful vehicles are at the top of this year’s list of the world’s fastest cars, and even if you can’t quite scrape the money together to own one yourself, they’re still nice to admire.
Hennessey Venom GT: 270mph

As its name implies, the Hennessey Venom GT bites hard, reaching a top speed of 270mph when it was tested earlier this year at a test track in Florida. This makes it the fastest road legal car currently in existence, which helps to justify its $1m price tag. For the statistics lovers among you, it goes 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and has 1244 hp thanks to its 7.0 litre LS7 Turbocharged V8 Twin Turbo Engine. Perfect for a (very) quick trip to the supermarket to buy some milk.
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 268mph

Previously the world’s fastest car for three years running, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport slipped into second place this year, but as it goes 0-60mph in 2.4 seconds it still beats the Hennessey Venom GT in one respect. If you’d like one to call your own, complete with its 1200hp Narrow Angle 8 Liter W16 Engine, you’ll need $2.4m or a very understanding bank manager.
Koenigsegg Agera R: 260mph

Reaching 60mph in just 2.9 seconds, the $1.6m Koenigsegg Agera R can easily continue to a top speed of 260mph, aided by its 5.0 litre Twin Turbo V8 engine and 1099 hp. This stunning Swedish car can also become a highly expensive snowmobile, as it can be fitted with a Ski Box and snow tyres for a bit of all-weather excitement.
SSC Ultimate Aero: 257mph

One of the more ‘affordable’ cars on the list at $654,400, the SSC Ultimate Aero packs a Twin Turbo V8 with 1183 hp, and goes 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds. It held the title of the world’s fastest supercar from March 2007 to July 2010, when it was beaten by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, but SSC are believed to have another car waiting in the wings that they believe will put them back on top.
9ff GT9-R: 257mph

For posterity’s sake, we must point out that the 9FF GT9-R actually ties with the SSC Ultimate Aero for the place of the fourth fastest car in the world. Based on the Porsche 911, the 9ff GT9-R has a 4.0 Liter flat-6 Twin Turbo Engine with 1120 hp under its bonnet, and as production quantity was strictly limited to 20 you’d better scramble to find the $695,0o0 cost.
Saleen S7 Twin Turbo: 248mph

With its 750 hp Twin Turbo All Aluminum V8 Engine, just 2.8 seconds is all it takes for the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo to reach 60mph, and when pushed to its limits you could coax out a top speed of 248mph. All you’d need is a $555,000, a race track and absolutely no concept of fear.
Koenigsegg CCX: 245mph

Two Koenigsegg cars appear on our list, the oldest and slowest of the two being the CCX which has a top speed of 245mph, goes 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds and is powered by a 806 hp, 90 Degree V8 Engine. It’s also a little cheaper than its younger sibling, with a base price of $545,568.
McLaren F1: 240mph

Powered by a BMW S70/2 60 Degree V12 Engine with 627 hp, the $970,000 McLaren F1 does 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds. It’s also known for looking quite like a Batmobile. What more could you possibly ask for?
Zenvo ST1: 233mph
Like everything in Denmark, the Zenvo ST1 is really good looking. However this Danish dazzler is more than just an ornament as it zips to 60mph in 2.9 seconds with the assistance of its 1,104 hp Twin-Charged 7.0 liter V8 Engine. Only 15 exist in the world, priced at a cool $1,225,000 each.
Pagani Huayra: 230mph
