Engine tuning is possibly the biggest single market for performance parts as it encompasses virtually all markets, from iridium spark plugs, silicone hosing, performance head gaskets right down to the air filter, brakes and clutches, and even exhaust system.
Some kind of performance part can be fitted to the engine whether it be a race or rally car or simply a Ford Focus with better spark plugs and an uprated panel filter.
Many of the world’s top manufacturers are muddled in this market including Cosworth, Kentcams, Cometic, K&N filters, Jenvey throttle bodies, uprated pistons, vernier pulleys, oil pumps, timing belt and chain kits all play their part in performance vehicles.
Performance parts usually do one very important deed i.e. they enhance the performance of the vehicle that they are fitted to, whether it be lightweight intercoolers, lightened flywheels, all performance parts are designed to make the vehicle perform in a better way.
Performance parts vary in as much as they can either lighten the engine as with lightweight vernier pulleys, camshafts, and specially designed cylinder heads, gaskets, pistons, and so forth. Designed to increase power to the engine many performance parts and products are deliberately engineered to ensure that the engine performs as efficiently as possible but increasingly with safety in mind.
Very lightweight aluminium performance parts for engine tuning are now available on the market for virtually all makes and models including Subaru, Mitsubishi, Audi, BMW, etc. All designed to give optimum performance whilst still retaining strength and durability. Indeed many of the performance parts on the market are race proven in the motorsport world.
Lightened flywheels and lightened engine casings are now a common feature on many performance vehicles.
Performance fuel pumps are also available on the market giving better flowing fuel to the engine whilst still being lightweight and durable. Because of the critical nature of fuel better filtration has become a necessity and can provide better air flow to both the engine to run cooler and also to the fuel to enable a performance engine with performance parts to perform at peak performance.
Performance parts are today an essential item in any vehicle involved in all aspects of motorsport, whether it be hill climbing, sprinting, or just purely fast road, lightness is essential along with durability to enable the engine to perform at its best temperature and to peak performance.
Further enhancement can be done to the engine bays by the use of high temperature calliper, exhaust, and engine paints which can withstand the high temperatures generated by high performance engines.
