The brilliant concept of combining a shock absorber with a coil spring was conceived by the racing industry, as the increasing power and speed of vehicles only served to highlight the limitations of what the existing suspension was capable of. If the car was going to make it round a corner at speed –or indeed- make it round a corner at all, then the suspension was going to need to be vastly improved. The answer was the coilover; a shock absorber with an additional spring coiled over the top, operating in concert, as a single unit. This improvement offered optimal damping, without the additional torsional loads experienced during the complex manoeuvre of turning a corner at speed. The good news?
